Section 13
Closing
Not willpower. The corridor, widened again.
The correction for addiction is not abstinence by willpower.
The correction is widening the corridor again. Lowering the noise floor during acute withdrawal. Support for writing new records that hold, so other paths open. Attention to the history underneath — trauma, pain, isolation — that made the locked pathway the lowest-cost one.
Relapse is not moral failure. It is the predictable result of a corridor that narrowed faster than the alternatives could be widened. The geometry says so.
Condemnation narrows the corridor further. Recalibration widens it.
Whatever the substance. Whatever the pathway. The test is the same. The verdicts vary. The structure is universal.
The body is the window. A window, in this work, is one self-reading life: one person. The corridor is what the window can read across. The cognitive corridor is the buffer your capacity to choose actually runs on.
The chapter has set up the test once. The two chapters that follow read the same window at two more scales. Extending a body. The end of life.
One image closes every chapter of this book. The ship is the person: one place where the now is being written. The wake is the pattern the ship leaves behind it. The ocean is the shared structure every wake is written into.
The ship is moving. The wake is forming. The ocean is receiving. The buffer is registering.
