Section 13

Closing

The window is rebuilt while the building stands.

The I is the building, not the window.

The window can be widened. Rebuilt. Reshaped. Extended through prostheses and implants.

What cannot be done is to outrun your own control. Bandwidth beyond what you can take in does not upgrade the I. It shatters the loop by which you read yourself.

A heart from one body beats in another. A cochlear implant carries sound into a brain that could not hear. A neural link reads a paralysed person’s intent and moves a prosthetic hand.

Each is the build being widened at the rate its own taking-in supports. Each is a person’s window being rebuilt while the building stands. The structure reads each at the grain where the matching actually holds.

The body is the window. The corridor is what the window can read across. The level of the build is where the window’s frame is set.

The chapter has set the test once. One chapter on the body follows. It reads the same window at one more scale: the corridor’s closing.

One image closes every chapter of this book. The ship is the person: one place where the now is being written. The wake is the pattern the ship leaves behind it. The ocean is the shared structure every wake is written into.

The ship is moving. The wake is forming. The ocean is receiving. The window is rebuilding.
