What the question is really asking

When one person acts on the corridor of a person who does not yet exist, what reads the act?

Strip the question down. One person edits the body of a future person, before that future person can choose. What is the test that reads the edit?

The question needs three things to make sense.

It needs a future person. Without a future person, without the person the embryo is moving towards, the edit has nothing to act on. The future person is what the question is about. The edit is action on that person’s corridor.

It needs the future corridor to matter. The structure agrees that it does. The future corridor is the corridor the future person’s capacity to choose will stand in. Its width, its drift and its exit are facts that person will carry. The test reads what the edit does to that corridor.

It needs an editor who can choose. Without override, the edit is just the gradient: chemistry following its slope. Then the structure reads its shape, and cannot tell it apart from the gradient. With override, the edit is the editor’s own commitment. It carries the editor’s own responsibility. Whether that commitment was permitted is read where the capacity to choose actually lives.

So here is the question, asked properly. A person who can choose acts on the corridor of a future person who cannot choose yet. What reads that act as maintenance? And what reads it as parasitic contraction?

The answer is the test this chapter sets up.
