Section 7
The boundary
Below the line, you own the buffer. Sovereignty is not absolution.
Below the line, you own the buffer. This needs precision.
The line is where what you do spills into the shared room, with consequences the larger structure has reason to register. The chapter on governance sets it out in detail.
Below the line
Below the line, the consequences of your use stay inside your own corridor. They do not spread into the shared room at a size that matters. There you are sovereign.
The larger structure’s role below the line is to supply what you may need, when you ask for it. Not to override your authority over your own buffer.
This is cognitive sovereignty. Your mind is your own. The noise floor you choose to live within. The substances you choose to take. The paths you choose to develop, or to refuse. These are your commitments.
Below the line, the larger structure has no authority over how you read your own buffer. The line is where the consequences outside you begin to register.
Sovereignty is not absolution
You are responsible for your commitments, in the sense the chapter on choice in Ø Resolutions set out.
Say you use something again and again, and your own modelling reads it as shrinking your own corridor, parasitically. Then your capacity to choose is at work across that use.
The structure does not absolve you. It gives you authority over your corridor, together with the responsibility for it.
Above the line
Above the line, the correction hierarchy from the chapter on law applies.
The use spills into the shared room at real cost. Money drawn away from the people who depend on you. Harm spreading through informal supply networks. A public-health load the larger structure has to carry. The shared room shrunk, parasitically, at the scale of the whole.
The correction hierarchy reads that cost. It responds at the lowest level that makes things stable again.
The response is not condemnation. It is the same five levels, at the scale of institutions. Adjust the inputs. Allow the structure’s own correction. Intervene where the lower levels are not enough. Accommodate where the coupling cannot be widened again. Separate, where the shared room requires it.
Two regions. Sovereign below the line. The correction hierarchy above it. Together they are the structural account of your authority over your own mind.
You are sovereign over your own buffer. The larger structure has authority where your use crosses the line. The worked case shows the test running at one large crossing.
