Maintenance is not blame

Sleep, food, movement and safety are not lifestyle choices. They are corridor conditions.

Naming sleep, food, movement and less stress as level one is not telling the patient to fix themselves.

It is an indictment. It indicts any civilisation that puts level one out of reach for large parts of its people, and then pays for level-three rescue when their corridors close.

Sleep, food, movement, safety, clean air, a stable home and less chronic stress are not lifestyle preferences. They are corridor conditions.

A patient who never had level one is not failing at upkeep. The civilisation that withheld it is.

The chapter is exact here so that nobody mistakes this for blaming the victim. The body is where the corridor is read. But the corridor’s width depends on things the body cannot supply alone.

The reading cuts both ways. It does not excuse the person who has the inputs and refuses them. It does not blame the person who lacks them and cannot supply what was withheld.

The reason is the same everywhere in the work. Your capacity to choose is real. It is also local, and it has limits. So each person is read at the scale where their choice actually reaches.

A patient with full access to level one who will not use it stands in a different place from a patient who never had it. A medical system that treats the two as the same is reading at the wrong scale. Treating them as the same is itself the parasitic move.

This is the crack the chapter most refuses to paper over. It does not soften the failure of a civilisation that withholds level one. It does not soften the dignity of a patient whose corridor narrowed under conditions they could not control. And it does not soften the responsibility of a patient whose corridor narrowed under conditions they could.

Three positions. Three different scales. Medicine that reads each one at its own scale is the medicine the structure endorses.
